Happy Birthday to my Big Daddy Boy

Yesterday was my Big Daddy Boy's birthday and he spent it taking care of me who apparently needs to go to cooking school and learn that when you leave a lid on a pot and boil something for 10 minutes the steam is going to BURN YOU when you take the lid off...so do that quickly OR end up spending your husband's birthday at the doctor with a second degree burn covering most of your fore arm and in BRUTAL amounts of pain {but I did get some pain meds...lots of good sleep}!!!

The good news is that I only have to have my arm wrapped up for A WEEK, TOUCHING NO LIQUIDS, RAW MEAT, or even WATER!!!!  What do I look like a woman with a maid, nanny, and personal chef!  COME ON!!

My Big Daddy boy was quite the trooper though and took great care of me last night even though it was his birthday!!

I love you babe!!!  Happy Birthday!  I will do better next year!

A great blogger friend of mine Taylsa totally brought me back to the good old days of playing HOUSE (Did anyone else play that where you had to list 3 people you wanted to marry, how many kids, blah blah blah and by process of elimination it magically saw into the future and told you the rest of your life?  Or was that just me?) Anyway, this is absolutely like that or those awesome quizzes in the Big Bop magazine that I answered while talking on my swatch phone, in my Z Cavaricci's or Gibeau jeans with the tight roll, and my mall bangs with a little Debbie Gibson in the background (Electric Youth...sorry).  Yes, those were the good ole days and the closest thing I got to going back to my sponge painted teal room and New Kids on the Block posters in this total stalker quiz...I LOVE IT!!  Join in, its fun and if you do leave your blog in the comments so I can come stalk you!!!

Have you seen The Blind Side yet??

Have you??  If not...get yoursefl a babysitter NOW and go!!  Not tomorrow, not this weekend, RIGHT NOW!  Its that good yall.  It really is.  I am not a movie watcher and must say that I usually leave the theater feeling like I wasted alot of money and that the movie could've been alot better.  Not so with The Blind Side.  It was wonderful!

Here are just a few reasons why you must see this movie...
  1. oooh bullets are so fun.  No, that isn't my reason, but they are aren't they?  Reason #1 is that it brings us to a place that most of us, myself included, forget exists.  We don't realize what the "ghetto" is because we don't live there.  We quickly judge those who do, but really we have no idea.
  2. It creates a tugging in our hearts for those who are less fortunate than we are.  It is easy to say that "they need to get a job" or "that they could do better if they wanted to do better" but this movie really shows that sometimes circumstances prevent you from doing anything other than what you are doing and that somehow God will use someone from the outside to give a person a chance that otherwise they would never have.
  3. That person that God uses just might be you, but unless you take the blinders off of your eyes and realize what the world is like and what is happening in the neighborhoods you don't drive in, God can't use you.  This movie completely opened my heart to this need and really hit home with me that I just close my eyes and pretend this reality doesn't exist.
  4. It slaps you right up side the head with what the Bible says about being a "do-er" not a "hear-er".  This movie is full of "Christians" who do nothing and don't want to do anything.  How sad the truth of that really is.
  5. This is true yall, Sandra Bullock is PRICELESS in this movie and you will fall in love with this family and be inspired.  But be sure to bring your Kleenex because I don't see how you will go through the first 4 seconds without need them.
You won't leave the movie the same person...at least I didn't.

So, if yall need me I will be driving around the ghetto looking for me a 400 pound 8 foot tall black boy to become part of my family and call me Momma.  No, seriously I will!!

Enjoy the movie and the change that will take place inside of you and please let me know what you think of it!!

oh...P.S.  I will be attempting to link up to The Nester's Tour of Homes at some point Monday.  I hope you can join us and we will just have a good ole time!!

More than you ever wanted to know about me

Hi, Im Kellye, a 30 year old (with gray hair like Im 50) , mom of 2 beautiful (if I do say so myself) little girls and wife to the love of my life for 11 years.   I am a true Southern gal, born in raised in the deep South...Louisiana to exact, who loves Community coffee and sweet tea.  If you have never had REAL sweet tea I encourage you right now to venture to Walmart, get Community tea bags, come home and put them to boil on the stove in a pot of water,  pour the tea into a pitcher with about half a pound of sugar, fill your glass with ice, pour the hot tea in the glass and drink immediately!!  Nothing is better than freshly made tea that is still hot on the rocks...ooooh weee!!

I am a shift worker's wife and I am not afraid to say that it is brutal at times, but very much has its benefits. I love being able to go to the movies with my husband in the middle of the day in the middle of the week, but the possibility of him working Christmas will never get easy.  My husband and I were high school sweet hearts and are more in love now than ever before.  I often wonder how I ever snagged him at 17 when I was the train wreck that I was.  By the grace of God is all I know.  And speaking of the creator of the entire universe and all that is in it...I am an undeserving Christian saved by God's infinite mercy.  We go to a wonderful church that we have been members of for the last 10 years.  Its a great place with Bible believing, God fearing Christians, who are like family to us.  Our closest friends are those that we go to church with and I truly don't know what I would do without them.  Being a mom and wife is the greatest gift the Lord could ever give me apart from salvation, and I strive every day to prove myself worthy of the job.

I am obsessed with houses and decorating, am absolutely "frugalicious" and pride myself on filling my home with as much "decorational clutter" as possible (I made that word up but it is defined as clutter that is used for decorational purposes...not to be confused with clutter such as leftover Halloween wrappers and empty cereal bowls that I also show off daily, but the layered use of many "cheap" and meaningful items that when combined properly create the perfect ensemble for any area of the home...how ya like that??).  Clutter makes me happy as does garage sale finds that just beg me to take them home and love them, which I do, and seeing their little smiling faces all over my house makes my decorational clutter rescue organization I got going on over here worth all of my hard work and paint brushes.

I love MAC makeup and often wonder why people wear anything else, my hair is still big like it was in the 90's because I LOVE IT, my shoe of choice is flip flops, and this season I will be rocking the scarves, ya hear me?

I hope you come to visit often and enjoy the time you spend here.  I am very much a beginner blogger but have "met" so many friends in blog land (some who don't even know they are my friend...can you say stalker) that i often wonder what on earth I would do if I didn't blog.

Well, that's all I have to say about me...so tell me about you!!  I would love to hear!!

Las Casa de Wootie-Open for Business

One of my favorite special things to do with my girls is help them to set up a restaurant in our kitchen. Usually when daddy has to run an errand he will invite the girls to come along. Sometimes both girls will jump in for the ride, sometimes neither will, but sometimes only one will tag along and the other and I will stay behind. As soon as the truck pulls out of the driveway the scurrying begins.
It is so much fun to prepare the kitchen as a restaurant and act as waitresses, hostesses, and chefs to our family memebers. It is one of my girls' favorite things to do and what a great way to learn hospitality and how to serve others. And mom gets some help setting the table...definitely a win/win!!
Last night I had cooked tacos which meant we had various menu items...perfect for our restaurant Las Casa de Wootie (that is our youngest daughters nick name). She set the table perfectly as I finished preparing the food. The table was beautiful and complete with candles, silverware wrapped in paper towels, and glasses of water. The mood was made perfect-o by music in the background. It is always a must for the girls to perfectly set the tone using the XM channels on our TV and not just any music will do. "Momma, its a Mexican restaurant, so we need Mexican restaurant music." Okay, no problem. "Calliente" on XM is perfect!!! Now, everything is ready and we are open for business!!! When dad and Wami (our other daughter's nickname) returned home they were greeted with an OPEN sign and a hostess with the mostess who took their name, phone number, and every other piece of information she could think of and seated them at the best seat in the house. It is so cute to hear the little ones use the "waitress lingo".
"Welcome to Las Casa de Wootie, can we start you off
with some chips and dip tonight?"
Then she runs to other side of the kitchen...
"Momma, Momma chips and dip hurry!!"
Then back to the table, "Here you go sir,
and what can I get you to drink?"
Then she runs to the other side of the kitchen....
"Momma, 2 root beers!"
Then back to the table...
"2 root beers and do you need a few more minutes
to look over the menu??"
"Our specials tonight are tacos, nachos, and taco salad.
Could I get you any of those?"
This is so much fun and something that I truly enjoy doing with the girls. They love to make their daddy feel special and I think this is one of the best ways to practice hospitality and serving others, as well as how to respond on the receiving end of such a sweet and loving gesture of service. Everyone involved has so much fun and daddy, above all, plays the part perfectly. He always compliments the chef on what a fantastic meal he enjoyed, makes sure to tell the waitress how impressed he is with the restaurant, and always leaves a tip!! Good times!!

How To Get Rid of that Leftover Halloween Candy that is Lurking in your Kitchen

Okay, I don't know about your house, but at mine the Halloween candy is lingering around and calling my name all day every day. And the sad part is, what's left I don't even like, and yet Im still eating it. My kids have long forgotten that it is here and haven't had any in months, but I still have my little paw in the candy bucket at least once a day. BRUTAL!! So here is what I decided to do... Today is "Report Card Day" at my girls' school. It is a day that is built up with much anticipation in my house because my kids are always looking for an easy way to make a little cash. So yesterday I divided up all the leftover candy and made baggies for each of the kids in both of my daughter's classes with a cute little note inside saying "Good luck on your Report Card." Now, let me just say that my kids are in Kindergarten and 2nd grade at a small, very one on one oriented private school, so there won't be any kids in either classes that will be disappointed today I feel sure. I never would do this if I thought that there would be. The teachers passed them out and all of the kids got a little treat before the report cards were passed out at the end of the day and all of the kiddies took a little bit of love from my house to theirs and saved me a few pounds over the next several months it would've taken me to eat all of that junk!! I have no shame either, I put the orange and black, turkey, candy corn, candy canes, and every other kind of blatant holiday candy in there. Hey, a desperate mom has to do what a desperate mom has to do!! Ha Ha!! Both of my girls got in the car today full of excitement, first for their report card money that they knew to be coming and also from being able to pass out a goodie bag to all of their friends at school!! GOODBYE CANDY...HELLO BROWNIE POINTS FOR MOM...not bad, not bad at all!! Of course I sent them all without taking a picture. Cut me some slack, I am knew to this blogging thing, I will do better next time...I promise!! If you decide to do this for your report card day or next holiday off or early dismissal or pep rally or whatever, comment me I would love to see how yours come out!! Have a great day!!
